Beaucarnea Recurvata. (Ponytail Palm)

The ponytail palm or Nolina may look exotic but in all honesty, it’s one of the easiest houseplants you could ever have! Rarely will you need to water her, and she can actually cope with some direct sun. It’s a dream plant if you like spectacular looks and minimal effort.

Although, known as a palm, it is actually a type of succulent that just looks like a palm. Succulents store water, because they’re used to dry weather. The ponytail palm stores water in its beautiful thick trunk, meaning it can go a really long time without a drink.

That’s useful in its native habitat, Mexico, where drought is common. For you, it just means you can be a forgetful waterer without worrying, and even getting to go on holiday without having to think about your plant not making it.

Used to growing in forests the Pony tail palm will manage just fine in light shade. However, it is so much happier in bright light and can even take on full sun. It's an ideal plant for the spots many other houseplants will find too hot.

The ponytail palm is certainly one of my favourite plants. It can live for an incredibly long time; there are some in their native country of Mexico that are know to be at least 350 years old.

Watering

When completely dry, give it a light watering. These beautiful plants can store water for a long time.
