Well, what’s not to love about this houseplant. Look at it. It’s clear why it’s known as the rattlesnake plant. Its long leaves not only have an interesting rippled shape, they’re also marked with a wild green pattern on their upper side and deep purple underneath. This is a proper showstopper.

The Calathea, given its common name prayer plant, because its leaves fold together at night, like praying hands. If you get up early enough you’ll get to see those leaves relax at sunrise ready to collect the sun rays.

Native to Brazilian rainforests, The prayer plant comes in many different colours when in the wild.

Watering:

To keep a prayer plant happy, make sure you don’t let its soil dry out. Check it at least once a week and water it when the top two inches of soil feel dry. It will also benefit from feeding once a month in spring and summer. If you can try using mineral water this will prevent crispy edges.

Lighting:

Keep in indirect light and never expose to direct sunlight.

Did you know?

Too much sun can actually make this plant’s colours fade, so try to keep it away from very sunny windows.

This plant is also Pet safe, what a treat!

Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves. Collections or 'mixed' listings for plants will be selected dependant on availability and carefully hand-picked to ensure their quality.
