One of the prettiest of the philodendron family, this favourite houseplant has elegant white-and-green striped leaves. Use it to add some pattern to your urban jungle, or as a stylish little statement on its own.
Philodendrons are enormously popular as houseplants and come in a wide variety of different shapes and sizes. There are around 500 different types, all with one thing in common: really great leaves.
You’ll find them all over the world, but they’re mostly native to the Americas and West Indies. The reason they’re so popular as houseplants is because they’re very adaptable to different conditions.
Variegation is the new black, so it’s no wonder that Philodendron birkin – a relatively new-to-market plant – is trending. The distinctive striped leaves are deep, glossy green with creamy white to yellow pinstripes, and every new leaf has unique markings. The mixture of variegated and plain leaves creates a striking contrast. One to wow visitors.
Watering
He likes his soil to stay moist, so give him a drink if the top two-three inches of soil feel dry. He can tolerate drought periods which makes it a great easy care plant.
Lighting
He’s happy in quite low light but prefers a bright spot. The only thing he dislikes is direct sun.
Did you know?
This variety of philodendron doesn’t actually exist in the wild. Those eye-catching stripes were bred just to be enjoyed in the home. In almost all philodendrons the leaves are heart-shaped. Philodendron is Greek for ‘heart tree’.
Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves. Collections or 'mixed' listings for plants will be selected dependant on availability and carefully hand-picked to ensure their quality.
