Senecio herreianus / ‘String of Pearls’
Share
Senecio herreianus is a unique, quirky succulent with intriguing, trailing stems of oval, bead-like leaves, each with a vertical, semi-translucent line running to its tip which assists photosynthesis. Flowers appear on tall, slender stems as small, white fuzzy daisies.
String of Beads plants need room to trail. Perfect for hanging baskets or cascading from shelves. A close relative of Senecio rowleyanus - String of Pearls.
Please note: String of Beads vines are coiled in the packaging by the growers to protect them in transit. On opening, we recommend gently unfurling the coils and teasing apart the vines around the pot. If you rush this stage, you risk losing some of the beads. Let the coils hang for several days before continuing to gently separate the vines (patience is a virtue). Some foliage loss is unavoidable, however they are fast growing plants and will regenerate quickly.
*Pot size: 14cm. Toxic to pets.*
Watering
Senecio are very drought tolerant, storing water in their leaves. Allow the soil to start to dry out between watering. Do not overwater or allow the plants to sit in water.
Lighting
Senecio herreianus prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid exposing your plant to harsh midday sunlight, though some morning or late afternoon sun would be a bonus.
Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves. Collections or 'mixed' listings for plants will be selected dependant on availability and carefully hand-picked to ensure their quality.
